Ionians gathered in loose confidence w/ meeting place at base of mt mykale. Here they worshipped at an altar of poseidon helikonios & built small council chamber for their meetings. Ionian cities defeated by lydians & paid some form of tribute. But ionia & lydia together fell to the persians; attempted revolt led to defeat in sea battle off lade.
