Document Summary

Experiment 4: stereochemical analysis of the reduction of benzyl. Oxidation- reduction reactions involve the transfer of electrons between two compounds. This compound is popular because it has the rare trait of behaving as a reducing agent and a nucleophile. It is considered a reduction agent because it is an excellent source of h- ions and is able to add hydrogen"s and electrons to electrophiles because of this. Recrystallization is an important part of this experiment because it is used primarily to purify the desired compound. The process of recrystallization entails the dissolving the impure substance into a prepared heated solvent, after dissolving the substance sample you can filter the solution to remove impurities, allowing crystallization of a pure compound by cooling. The goal of this experiment is to obtain a pure example using various techniques studied from previous experiments. Remove from ice bath and again wait 10 minutes.
