Document Summary
Objecive: understand diferent types of microscopy and their requirements for use in cell biology. Robert hooke; built the irst microscope (mid 1600"s), observed cork compared it to a monastery. Each individual cell wall was named the cellulae relaing to the small rooms. Went from a rudimentary observaion using a microscope to the tree of life and be able to understand how cells work and more in depth observaions of cell biology. All organisms are composed of one or more cells. The cell is the basic structural and funcional unit of all living organisms (schwann, 1839) Cells arise only from division of pre-exising cells. Common characterisics of cells; have a cell membrane, geneic material (dna), nucleoides/metabolism (atp), similarity in shape (oblong), cytoplasm (composed of mostly water, ions and sugars, dissolved nutrients and wastes). Diferences: in size, unicellular/mulicellular, presence of lagella/cilia, general or very specialized role ex.
