Manufactured using living things: plants, humans, animals, single cells. High profit - when a product fails they charge more for successful products to make up for losses. They patent their products so that no one else can use or produce the same products as them as long as they are selling it. Manufacture products that are not protected by patent. Very large to medium sized companies (100,000"s of employees) Break other people"s patents - find loopholes to break and steal the products - this is common. Sometimes employ scientists mostly for quality control or making new manufacturing ways. Bold - make their own products and sell the generic versions to essentially be their own competition. Tend to be smaller (100"s to 1000"s of employees) World-wide, only about 30 new molecular entities (innovator drugs) are approved each year.
