There was a wide scale search for new drugs (anti-cancer medication) by the department of. Poisons can be medication so they would search for medicine by searching for poisons. Yew bark extract found to be cytotoxic (1964) Cytotoxic means that it will kill cells, but in scientific literature it is slang for anything that can kill cancer . It was isolated and then discovered that it was found in yew bark. Almost 20 years passed before people could figure out what it could be used for, but eventually people became aware that it has a poison effect and a cancer-killing one as well. This became a breakthrough treatment for this condition. It was used successfully for certain types of cancer. King of eburones killed himself with yew extract. Yew poison was in macbeth and hamlet. Wines stored in casks made from yew wood were poisonous. The wine would extract toxic materials from the wood which resulted in deaths.
