During black plague, population of europe died. Plague doctors (not real doctors) just wanted to make money so posed as one. Was said in those times that disease was caused by bad smells. At e(cid:374)d of (cid:271)eak o(cid:374) (cid:373)ask that (cid:862)plague do(cid:272)tor(cid:863) (cid:449)ould (cid:449)ear, they (cid:449)ould put s(cid:373)ells of flo(cid:449)ers. Cause of disease was unknown, unaware that bacteria existed. Could be curse from god, bad smell of unclean condition or spontaneous generation. Ww1 and ww2 had more death due to infection than from combat. Agostino bassi proved germ theory of disease in 1844. Miasma theory disproved in 1854 by john snow. Created map of cholera infections and identified source. Discovered cluster of disease around water pump and concluded that water made the people sick. Had handle of water pump removed and disease stopped. Discovered bacteria in milk was causing it to spoil, therefor concluded that bacteria was causing disease in people.
