The human brain always searches for patterns even when its not there. The ancients did not use experiments or statistics. Once the evidence is there it is hard to contradict or prove wrong to people. If someone has the flu people put a diaper on the ill"s chest and put flour milk and mustard. It made the chest red and people thought that it was sucking all the poison out. In reality, mustard is a strong irritant that inflames the chest. People still stick with ancient methods today because of superstition. Seeing patterns or connections in random or meaningless data even when its not there. 20 years ago someone noticed a pattern in electromagnetic fields causing cancer, however that is not true: pareidolia. Perceiving sounds or images as something else. Medication and cures may not be connected in any way. May eat a plant when you were getting better anyways (coincidence) Poison and harm may not be connected.
