Our genome consists of 3 billion bp. Complex traits (diseases) instead of having one gene its a couple of them. Alot of the genome resequencing projects we say like the 1000 genome project etc more interplaying with each other - influences phenotype to creating a catalog of human genetic diversity. I. e who cares if we develop these technologies to sequence genes. This is why - get the best snapshot of human genetic diversity to discover the genetic basis of diseases. Nature component is very strong too and how that affects the human genome. No such thing as a wild type genome . I. e how do you derive the wild type when were all so different. For research purposes, the wild type genome is usually referred to as the reference genome from the original master sequence in the human genome project - but doesn"t necessarily represent the end all be all template. So we"re looking at differences - i. e genetic variation.
