Week 13 the modern olympics (1896 - ) Review: the ancient olympic games took place every four years for nearly 1200 years. In 393 ce, the roman emperor theodosius i, a christian: abolished the games because of their pagan influences. Approximately 1500 years later: a young french aristocrat named pierre de coubertin began their revival, concerned with masculinity, amateur sport, and believed the celebration of man through sports and notion of superior values. Game objectives: promote friendship between countries, unite humankind through sport, promote and create world peace, sport leads to vigorous and well-rounded elite gentlemen. Though coubertin was not the first to propose the revival of the olympic games, he was certainly the most well-connected and persistent of those to do so.
