Sport and nation building linked to: moral entrepreneurs (reformers, amateurism, economic entrepreneurs (entertainment) These two forms of entrepreneurialism came together to shape: ideas of how sports should be played, image of sports in canada. Sport also created popular cultural messages about canada that were communicated nationally and abroad. Both organized and informal canadian sports events created public images of masculinity and strength: these images helped to define the character of an unspoiled, northern. World fairs frontier canada during the second half of the 19th century. Canada as part of the commonwealth, participated in the world"s fairs. Early exhibits focused on canada as a sportsmen"s paradise.
