For example apollo = god of the sun,) One compete to please the gods to have his protection, his favors, his gifts to bestow upon them. One had to establish a good relationship with the gods in order to develop their soul and their mind, in order to have the protection of the gods. We see different forms of athletic festivals, competitions and activities organized around the premise of an expression of spirituality and the connection one makes with the gods. Only first place, first place than the rest = losers (no 2 nd, 3rd place like today that are even celebrated) it is a shame to lose (not finish 1st) People worship the heroes and dead ancestors at their funeral.
