Receptor structure: five special senses: vision, hearing, equilibrium, smell, taste. Housed in complex sense organs: general senses. Majority, monitor most types of sensory info, tacile, temp, pain, muscle sense. Not 1:1, single receptor can receive many simuli and vv. May or may not be encapsulated by connecive issue. Somatosensoty system: three levels of neural integraion: receptor level: input from extero/intero/proprioceptors, circuit level: processing in ascending pathways, perceptual level: processing in corical sensory areas.
