Receptors release into the blood stream, the circulaing hormones binds to receptors and can create a chemical afect (not always acion potenial) A lot of hormones circulate but only bind to its personal receptor. There is another ime of receptor acivaion (inside the cytoplasm) it difuses freely through the plasma membrane and then acivates. Depends on the ininity of the hormone receptor (sensiive to small amounts) G protein couple receptors (very powerful efect . Pineal gland (inside the cranium, close to the thalamus) light sensiive. Hypothalamus , control center for homeostasis connected to the pituitary gland and it controls it . 3-stuctural groups , amino acids, steroids (synthesized by cholesterols) Bind to its receptors and acivate membrane bound g protein and producion messenger. Acts as an intercellular ligand- increase level- enzyme (kinase ) does some changes.
