Astrocytes: star shape, most common, anchor neurons close to capillaries nutrient exchange, sampling of antigen. Microglia: protective, touch neurons to monitor well-being may turn into macrophages. Ependymal cells: lines cavities of brain & spinal cord as barrier btw csf & fluid bathing cells, cilia circulate csf. Oligodendrocytes: few branches that gives myelin sheaths to cns neurons. Satellite cells: surround neuron cell bodies in ganglia gives chemical environment of the neurons similar function as astrocyte. Schwann cells: myelin sheaths around larger neurons in pns-important for peripheral nerve cell regeneration.
