Document Summary

Endomysium: ct surrounds each muscle fiber (cell) Epimysium: dense fibrous cct surrounding a group of fascicles, outside later of a single muscle. Deep fascia: dense ct binds muscles into functional groups ex. Origin: most proximal attachment, closest to the midline. Most attachments are indirect and involve a tendon or an aponeurosis. Insertion: most distal attachment, farther away from the midline. All skeletal muscles have fascicles, there are 4 basic patterns. Broad origin and its fascicles converge toward a single tendon of insertion. Can be straplike (sartorius) or fusiform (biceps brachii) Muscles can work together or in opposition. Muscles that opposes or reverses a particular movement and help control movement by providing some resistance. A single muscle can be a prime mover for one action and an antagonist for another action (ex biceps brachii and triceps brachii) Muscles that help the prime mover by: promoting the same movement, reducing undesirable movements (ex. Finger flexor muscles cross both wrist and phalangeal joints)
