Document Summary
The skin is a barrier, it provides both physical and chemical protection. Over the course of your life time you lose about 18kg of your skin cells. It is a group of tissues working together. Four different types of tissues: connective tissue, nervous tissue, epithelial tissue, skeletal (muscular) tissue. You find all types of tissues in the skin. Move from the bone marrow and live in the skin and makes sure everything is okay: merkel cells. 4 basic layers: you only need to know two: stratum corneum: You lose 40 pound of skin cells through a life time. Layer of dead cells separating thick skin and thin skin (difference is one has 4 layers and the other has 5: stratum lucidum, stratum granulosum, stratum spinosum, stratum basale. As new cells form they migrate upwards. By the time they get to the top layer they lose all their organelles and acquire keratin.
