Document Summary

Bone is a living and dynamic tissue, which grows and changes based on its environment. Bon reacts to the amount of force that is applied to it by increasing the density and the amount of roughening on the bone. If more stress is placed on the bone, deposition will occur, and calcium will be placed and stored in the bone. If less stress is lace on the bone, resorption will occur, and bone will be broken down to release calcium. The functions of bone include the 7 following tasks: Support: bones provide a framework of pillars and protective cages that supports the body and that cradles its softer organs. Protection: bones in the skull, the vertebrae, and the rib cage protect vital organs, such as the brain, the spinal cord, and the organs of the thorax. Movement: bones are used as levers in the movement of the body and its parts.
