ANP 1105 Lecture 1: Chapter 4 textbook review
Document Summary
Each cell is capable of digesting food, ejecting waste and carrying out all other necessary activities for keeping itself alive. In multicellular bodies such as the human body, cells do not function independently, instead they form tight cell communities that live and work together. Each group of cells looks and acts differently, and each group performs a specialized function to help maintain homeostasis in the body. Tissues: are similar in structure and perform common or related functions. These tissue types put together form the fabric of the body: epithelial: protection, absorption, filtration, excretion, secretion, sensory reception, connective: supports, nervous: controls, muscle: produces movement. Most organs consist of all four tissue types, and its function is determined by the arrangement of these tissue types. Histology: is the branch of anatomy dealing with the microscopic structure of tissues. This allows different parts of the cells and tissues to take up different colours.
