Document Summary

Intellectual property is a very specialized and complicated area of law. I want to deal with it only to the extent that you have a basic understanding of it and can then detect intellectual property issues and protect yourself when in business. From a practical point of view, when you are in business and you are faced with an intellectual property issue, my best advice would be for you to retain the services of a lawyer who specializes in the area. While you may pay a lot for this person"s expertise, it will pay off in the long run if the interests you are protecting are worth it. Intellectual property is difficult to define but has been said to be property that is essentially the product of mental activity. In a sense, the ownership of intellectual property is the ownership of a bundle of rights that protects the ideas or inventions from being used by other persons.
