ADM 3337 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Job Evaluation
Document Summary
Skills-based structures link pay to the depth or breadth of the skills, abilities, and knowledge a person acquires that"s relevant to the work. Pay individuals for all the skills for which they"ve been certified regardless of whether the work they"re doing requires all or just a few of those particular skill. Very different approach compared to a job-based plan, which pays employees for the job to which they are assigned regardless of the skills they posses. Specialist- depth: person-based structures based on greater knowledge often associated w/ degrees, accreditations or certifications that are required to a specific job (teachers) Generalist/multiskill-based breadth: base pay on the range of knowledge specific to group of related jobs. Responsibilities assigned to an employee can change drastically over a short period of time (e. g. , on the same workday) whereas specialists increase knowledge over a longer period.
