Power is the possession of something that influences. Legitimate power comes from your position in a power hierarchy. You can influence others and make them do what you want them do, and people comply. Reward power looks at the persons ability to grant resources, ex control over promotions, returns, employee relationships, raise, etc. looks at a persons ability to deliver this consequence positive or to remove negative consequences. When looking at types of power, you can look at how peoples positions control others, versus applying/removing consequences, or threatening. In personal sources of power, we see expertise power (which includes information power-if you"re knowledgeable even if you are not an expert, people will be dependent on you). In expertise power you have a lot of accumulated knowledge from your work. Expert power considered the most stable form of power; you can lose your position but nobody can take your knowledge and information power.
