Stressors: the demands that cause people to experience stress, demands that cause the stress response. Strains: the negaive consequences that occur when demands tax or exceed a person"s capacity, negaive consequences of the stress response. Transacional theory of stress: this theory explains how stressors are perceived and appraised, as well as how people respond to those percepions and appraisals. Primary appraisal: evaluaion of whether a demand is stressful and, if it is, the implicaion of the stressor in terms of personal goals and well-being. Benign job demands: job demands that are not appraised as being stressful. Work hindrance stressors stressors that tend to be appraised as thwaring progress toward growth and achievement: role conlict.
