Organization structure: system of tasks/ relationships/ communication channels that ink together diverse individuals and groups. Organization chart: diagram describes relationships and the formal arrangements of work positions. 2 types: formal and informal: formal: in its official state, division of work, defined levels of management, informal: shadow organization, unofficial but critical. Departmentalization: grouping positions and teams to enhance coordination. May be undermining for resources, incompatible compartmentalization: matrix: combines the two above to gain advantages and minimize disadvantages of each. Operate with fewer full time employees, less complex internal systems, reduced overhead costs, permits operations across great distances. Virtual organization: operates a shifting network of external alliances through it and internet: difference between boundaryless and network, give examples. Organizational designs: mechanistic and organic: mechanistic: vertical, bureaucratic, centralized, formal, organic: horizontal, adaptive, decentralized, informal.
