Aggression, love, sexuality, conflict, neurosis, dreams, humour, accidents, etc. The well adjusted and neurotic individual had minds that functioned in the exact same way. Doctrine of opposites there are two sides to everything: many patients seen by freud were seen with hysteria. Theory need to explain: how sexual thoughts could occur early in childhood, how such thoughts were kept from consciousness, why there was any need to keep them from consciousness.
