Most commonly and simply politics is understood as the art and science of government = as the affairs of state. This common understanding, however, is overly narrow and problematic = it rests on a false distinction between the state/government and society. Ultimately, the state is rooted in society = the state maintains a particular social order = interactions between state and society at the core of politics. The formulation and execution of decisions, which are binding on members of social whole (society) And the relationships (or social relations) which are formed between individuals, groups, states in the process of the formulation and execution of those decisions (the relationships underpinning and supporting binding decisions) If politics is about social relations and making decisions for society it follows that politics is the study of the exercise of power . Political science devoted to the study of power"s various distributions, uses and outcomes . State: (i. e. , political leaders government; civil service-police policy makers)
