NURS 2820U Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Tachycardia, Aorta, Sinoatrial Node
Document Summary
Myocardium- thick middle layer (due to hard labor the heart does ) with blood vessels speciically the coronary arteries which supply blood to the heart from the l ventricle which is collected by the coronary veins. Endocardium- inner layer that is touched by the blood. Involved in the formaion and health of the valves. Pericardial space- has luid to avoid fricion during contracion. Deine: inlammaion of the pericardium, exudate(luid) may develop. Causes: infecions (eg tb), uremia (eg kidney failure), autoimmune diseases. Infecion- inlames the pericardial layer and may end up producing a pus exudate within the pericardium space. Efusion or tamponade- extra blood or other luid can collect in the pericardium space which potenially squeezes the heart leads to inhibiing the heart to funcion normally. Constricive pericardium- the pericardial layer becomes thickened or calciied due to ibrosis of the pericardium or accumulaion of fat around the pericardial layer which disable the heart to funcion.
