Document Summary

What happens to the line y=mx + b as the slope (m) changes: the value of the slope determines the steepness and direction of the line, if the line rises to the right it will have a positive slope ie. m>0, if the line falls to the right it will have a negative slope ie. m<0, the greater the magnitude of m, the steeper the line, a horizontal line has a slope of zero (rise is 0) and its equation is in the form y = b where b is the y intercept, a vertical line has an undefined slope (run is 0) and its equation has the form x = a where a is the x intercept. Eg. 2 a)state the sign of the slope for each of the following (1) (2) (4) (3) (5) b) rank from flattest to steepest.
