HLSC 1810U Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Substance Abuse, Antimicrobial Resistance, Caffeine
Document Summary
Drug use is essentially only taking a drug as it was intended (for example, if one has adhd, you would be prescribed medication) Drug misuse is taking a drug that is not prescribed for you. Drug abuse becomes more chronic, where the drug is used for leisurely purposes to the extent that it becomes unhealthy. Psychoactive drugs are drugs that affect your central nervous system, it affects cognitive function and motor function. A response to a drug is individual in nature confounding factors, such as internal and external stimuli influence how one reacts to a drug. When discussing drug interactions, this is regarding people taking multiple drugs simultaneously. Inhibition occurs when both drugs are working, but one drug hinders the ability for the other to function at its full capacity. Cross tolerance occurs when an individual builds immunity of a certain drug (over the course of your lifespan, some individuals are becoming antibiotic resistant)
