Digital communication: having access to information allows clients to be more informed about their condition, creates social media problems, patients that are informed sometimes intimidate nurses but we should be empowered by this. Active, engaged listening- make sure a patient feels heard. Make a client feel included- explain what you are doing or how you are doing something. Develop trust by matching verbal and non verbal interactions. Concreteness (making sure to be descriptive of what you"re doing- the clarity in the messenging) Is empathy something you can develop? (coming back to this) Intrapersonal- who you are as a professional effects the way you interact/communicate. Confidentiality: more around your responsibility to maintain the privacy rights of the patient. A nurse can be over or under involved in a patient"s care- both are boundary violations. Ignoring a patient vs spending too much time with a patient.
