The crown: the first principle of canadian government. Everything the government of canada does is done in the name of the crown. In 1688 the responsibility of the country was transferred from the king to the ministers. The crown assumes that the government is governing responsibly so long as it commands the confidence of parliament. This is, as long as the government commands the support of a majority in parliament. Participation in the political process is how we defend our freedom from the power of government.
