The only on-the-record account of what may have happened to victoria came from rafferty"s former girlfriend terri-lynne mcclintic, who had already pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and is serving a life sentence. Rafferty apologized before sentencing: "i know this has been a long ordeal for everybody and i"m glad it has come to an end. I hope everybody can find some closure of some sort to me being sentenced to life," Rafferty said he chose to stay quiet during the trial, believing it would benefit his case. He added he was "truly sorry" that the stafford family lost victoria and was "a very definite part of why victoria was not here today. "
