URST 200 Lecture Notes - Lecture 22: Urban Rail In The United Kingdom, Manuel Castells, Wi-Fi
Document Summary
There has been new ways to rank the local and global connectivity: Urban rail networks --> essentially the existing railway system. Rail-airport connectivity --> how airports have local railways connected to them, to give them access to the city. Some countries favor this rail connectivity, whilst some regions do not --> e. g. bangkok describes their railway system as "glocalized", where rural parts can easily access metropolitan areas, but it is depending on your economic status. Transportation stretches space and time in the metropolis. Vancouver --> has the highest capita of super car ownership (really expensive cars) Chicago area transportation study (cats) --> a scientific study to attempt to document traffic and transportation. Evaluated the land-use, where people were working and living, what was the purpose of travel. Morning commute --> when workers and students are going to work/school. Thus we have to build a transportation system that satisfies that.
