SOCI 415 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Qualitative Property, Egalitarianism
Document Summary
Find a working definition of science: contains systematically empirically testable. All theory starts from data (observations how we formulate theories) No strict rules between: data induction theory. You make a claim prove it with data. Can not be a contradiction otherwise they will not make sense. Disproof is easier than proof in science. Relations between propositions indexing without this you cannot count. A way of enumerating without this we cannot count elements of a set: as long as everyone receiving an index they are apart of the set. Qualitative data is useful for building up on discovery (induction) Abstractions: a concept is not the thing but stands for the abstract class of things, ideas or entities. Concepts are essential to theories because they enable us to organize experience. We do not invent a new concept every time we refer to a unique event.
