Document Summary
Interval and ratio variable sboth have defined distances between values and are together ofthen refered to as quantitiative or numerncial variables. Interval ratio variables can be either discrete(measured in whole numbers) or continuous(measured in units that are infinitely divisible) Regarding interval-ratio variables, the units of measurement refer to the quantities in which measurements are reported. E. g degrees for the interval variable temperature in celsius. E. g cdn dollars for the ratio variable monetary value. A single categorical variable can be represented by a set of dummy variables: Suppose we want to assess people"s immigrant status by differentiating between: born in canada. Immigrated to candaa more than 10 years ago. Immigrated to canada 10 or fewer years ago: we cold define a single categorical variable called imigration with three categories, or we could create two dummy variables, recent immigrant(1 = yes, 0 = no) Long time immigrant (1 = yes, 0 = no)
