Changing norms around spousal roles: traditional idea that should men work and women be mothers, more equal relationships (man/woman, man/man, woman/woman) Rising divorce rates (stable now: due to changing attitudes towards women in the workforce, less fear of divorce due to independence. Increased lone parent families: rise in same-sex marriages, couples without kids are pressured less. Why is the family changing: rise i(cid:374) (cid:449)o(cid:373)e(cid:374)"s rights, increasing tolerance of diversity, declining levels of religiosity, rising of individualism. Families have purposes (s. s. r. r. : socialization, support, reproduction, regulation. Age groups (parents and children, older and younger sibling)
