Split labour market theory: sees the economy as split into 2 levels of employment (upper tier and lower tier) upper tier uses discrimination of the lower tier to maintain position. Feminist symbolic and con ict all workers are not equally exploited by capitalism gender and race; coloured women, patriarchy. Post modern takes issues with conventional identities being organized around social classes ethnic and racial identities are consequences of personal choice. Family appropriation : family you raise when you reach adulthood.
