Document Summary

Society is created through our use of symbols, traditions and rituals: ex. People stranded on an island and they were all talking at once, but one person picked up a shell and said whoever is holding it gets to talk so people have to wait their turn. We use language and behavioural to create these symbols, traditions and rituals: we need someone to speak up and communicate this to us. Through this creation, we give meaning to these symbols traditions and rituals: everything is made of symbols. Interpretations of things, behaviours, etc we give meaning to those tings: through those meanings we create order. Once this is done, we have the basis for various belief systems, norms and value. The more we respect these beliefs systems, norms or values, the more permanent they become in society: ex. Going to school/university it see(cid:373)ed like that"s (cid:449)hat (cid:449)e (cid:449)ere supposed to do.
