Different generations or age groups have distinct sets of experiences that shape them in important ways. A focus and value on the self. Often over and above societies or collectives. Emphasis on the potential and independence of the self: self-reliance: Emphasis on the independence of individuals and their ability to look after themselves: self-confidence: Confidence in one"s own capacities and values.
