Document Summary
Kangaroo care, its impact on premature infants and families. Consider difficulties in studying outcomes associated with breastfeeding vs formula feeding. Interpret and critique the research on breastfeeding and child outcomes. 2 different hospitals: 1 with kangaroo care, one without. Infants observed at discharge (37 weeks), 3 and 6 months. Parents had a lot of benefits from engaging in kangaroo care; more sensitive/warm parenting, provided more nurturing and stimulating home environments, and had lower rates of depression. Preterm babies showed more advanced development in proportion to developmental scales when received kangaroo care. Skin-to-skin happens a lot with full-term babies, thus why having kangaroo care is helpful to ensure that gradual development to bring to fair level and good outcomes. So why are there benefits to kangaroo care: it is helping the babies. Effects of parent proximity, versus the separation after birth. Rhythmic sensations, heartbeat stimulations like these may be useful!
