1: process of forming impressions of others using: Non-verbal data facial structure, expression, gestures, posture. Verbal data what we say, how we say it. Cues: raw data of person perception, facial structure. Baby-faced adults - chubby cheeks, soft jawline, big round eyes soft skin. Tend to receive more favorable judgements in court: facial expressions. Likely to be better at identifying facial expressions who are in the same racial category or group. Similarly decoded, or perceived: body language. E. g. arms out and shrugged shoulders = confusion. Humans have the largest ratio of iris to pupil; easy to see where other humans are looking because of this. E. g. unintentional pupil dilation poker players wearing sunglasses. Deceptive cues: we generally trust emotion expressions, valuable if used to deceive, e. g. we want to smile even when we"re not that happy inside. We want to convince the other person that we"re happy. Verbal cues: what we say and how we say it, deception: verbal/non-verbal cues.
