Characterized by an array of diverse symptoms including extreme oddities in perception, thinking,, action, sense of self and manner of relating to others. Hallmark is significant loss of contact with reality. A split between intellect and emotion and between intellect and external reality. Delusion: essentially an erroneous belief that is fixed and firmly held despite clear contradictory evidence. Believe things others with shared backgrounds do not believe. One"s thoughts, feelings, actions are being controlled by external agents. One"s private thoughts are being broadcasted to others. Thoughts are being inserted into ones brain by some external agency. Hallucinations: a sensory experience that seems real to the person having it, but ocurs in the absence of any external perceptual stimulus. Disorganized speech and behaviour - the external manifestation of a disorder in thought form. Catatonia: may show a virtual absence of all movement and speech.
