Often di diagnosis given if symptoms last longer than 6mo. Person learns to cope or habituate to stressor. Textbook says adjustment disorder is the least stigmatizing of common diagnoses. But what"s considered stigmatizing or not stigmatizing changes from person to person. Textbook lists diagnostic criteria of adjustment disorders. Won"t be tested on the speci ers, but good to generally know them. Used to be under anxiety disorders (dsm-iv) Trauma = extreme, terrifying, v stressful, often life-threatening. Individual violence, organized violence (ie. being mugged vs target of war) Person doesn"t want to think about trauma, but brain keeps making them think about it. Ie) nightmares, ashbacks (feeling like you"re back in the traumatic experience) Can be dissociative = caught up in head/recollection of memory and not living in present moment.
