Document Summary

Reminders: lab 3: friday at aerl, extra data collection swng 122, lab 4 and 5 not mandatory. Two broad issues to consider when looking at a measure (creating one, or understanding one): reliability: rest-retest reliability, inter-rater reliability, internal consistency. Reliability: construct validity: face, content, predictive, concurrent, convergent, discriminant. Face validity: looks at each question, does it measure what it"s suppose to. Learning objectives: describe why we use descriptive statistics, calculate and interpret a mean, median, and mode. explain how the mean is affected by outliers, and how sample size in uences how much it"s affected. For each variable, calculate mean, standard deviations, etc. Median = score that divides group in half. Uses information from every score, most commonly used. Calculate mean: add up all scores one each group and divide by the number of scores in each group. Calculate median: put scores in order, count number of scores. If even #, identify two middle scores, take average of them.
