Strategies: avoid causes or manage emotion (be aware of the causes) Implication is that you have control over your behavior and that has medical implications. More or less the same as behavioral medicine. Suggests a focus on prevention, rather than cure. Essential because we are talking about biology. Our body does a very good job for the most part in dealing these threats to our health. Immune system doesn"t work as well when we are exposed to psychological stress. Therefore, if we deal with stress, we can help our immune system operate more powerfully. Doesn"t necessarily last a long time but it was stressful. Not necessarily strong but extended over a longer period of time. Might do more damage because we don"t feel it as strongly.
