Document Summary
Sensory neurons - bringing in information fro the environment or parts of the body. Motor neurons - relaying of movement commands, directs movements of the body. Interneurons - neurons communicating with other neurons. Carries information to other neurons, muscles, or glands. Speeds up the conduction of action potentials. Allows one neuron to talk to the other. E. g. the wave, knowing when to raise your arms and what to do with your arms. Action potentials - carrying a signal within a single neuron. Electrical conduction - electrical changes going inside a neuron. Step 1: axon receives incoming signals, reaches threshold for excitation. Sodium ions go from outside neuron to inside neuron (positive ions going inside negatives) Sodium ions switch out with potassium ions that entered from the step before. A new action potential cannot be initiated. An action potential on one location of the neuron triggers an action potential on the adjacent location of the neuron.
