Darwin"s survival of the fittest variation, selection, retention succesful adapted features get selected pass on to o spring. Sex of human o spring depends on whether the sperm that fertilized the ovum carries an x or y. Bipedalism: ability to move about on two legs - 4 million years ago - freed hands for grasping and tools. Encephalization: increased brain size (relative to body) - 2 million years ago - thinking, planning, language. Nature (nativism): everything is encoded biologically in our genes (plato, eugenics) Nurture (philosophical empiricism): everything is learned through experience i. e. aristole, watson, skinner. Modern view: the two are not separable, a better statement would be nature via nurture phenotypes: height, weight, iq etc higher % heritability on to children. Monozygotic twins (identical) share 100% of their genes in common, whereas dizygotic twins (non identical) share 50% of their genes (like regular siblings)
