Document Summary
Review session: october 3rd 10-11:30, october 6th 12-1:30 (to look at your exam) Encoding- storage- retrieval: encoding- information from world make memory. What determines what we remember- our attention. Only occurs when you are paying attention. Stimulus/see event, then sensory detection, processed of meaning/ recognition, response selection. 1) early filtering: occurs when before recognition of meanings: before anything processed for meaning- if something is meaningful. E. g watching tv but doing something else not focus on tv but then when you hear something important you perk up and you focus back to tv. Clicker: dr bob in office: =late selection thought he was ignoring what was happening in the outside- yet when he hears his name then he begins to focus and listen listening to speech- and paying attention. Cocktail party effect: even when lots of noise around you, you can focus just on one conversation, ability to do one thing at a time, selective attention at work.
