Document Summary
All of our senses are affected by our biases and past experiences. Light hits retune and sound waves hitting ear, etc. Converted to neural impulses -- > transduction. Light leads to vision; sound leads to hearing. Sensation is determined by the nature of the sense receptor, not the stimulus. Phosphenes: ashes of white when you touch your eyes when closed. Your eyes are used to being stimulated by light. Combination of our senses can lead to different perceptual experiences ex: smell and taste --> when you are sick, you can"t taste things as well. Auditory doesn"t affect visual as much, but can. People who have synesthesia have a lot of cross-modal perceptions of the world that are consistent for the person but doesn"t make sense. They get senses of taste when reading words. Reading the word blue could be bitter, or reading red could be sweet.
