Document Summary
Psychology 101 - module 3fg your body is made out of neurons dendrites. Long thin bre where neuron impulses are transmitted terminal buttons. Release neurotransmitters tangles: axons are not grown straight (twisted and bunchy) -> affects axon"s ability to transmit neuron impulses. Can be very short or over 1 metre long. White, fat insulation layer covering the axon. 0. 5-10 m/s with myelination: up to 150m/s (faster) multiple sclerosis --> myelin breaks down --> cognitive and physical side effects (slower) Depends on the process of charged ions. At rest, we have our axon with positively charged potassium inside and a little bit of positively charged sodium. Outside, lots of sodium and a bit of potassium. Neural impulse, called action potential(process of sending something down the axon) Neuron gets a signal to re and sodium rushes in. So potassium leaves axon to restore the right negativity but everything, is now backwards, so it returns to rest.
