Physical training for the body, musical training for the soul. Musical training (including stories) comes first: 2 kinds of stories, true ones and false ones, false stories are told first. First task is to control the storytellers in a luxurious city. Gods are good and only good things come from them. That which is good is least subject to change. Gods do not lie, cheat or steal. Zeus is not the perfect definition of good. Gods hate lies, and would not present an illusion as the truth: this is why he is so opposed to any story that says the gods shape shift. The gods hate a true lie: a lie that is believed to be the truth by the person speaking it, the gods and men (plato"s term) alike hate ignorance in the soul. ) Musical training comes first: false stories first, true strong later. Therefore in order to make guardians, we need to control the storytellers.
